Famously rejecting an audition for Air Force One (1997), Nevada born actress Jena Malone’s career path has often been related to that of Jodie Foster, an actress she has been cast alongside on two separate occasions. Jena’s skill and artistic flair has been visible from an early age, winning the Young Artist Award for her title role in 1996’s Bastard Out of Carolina and subsequently catapulting her career and profile to new heights. Appearing as Jodie Foster’s younger self in Contrast (1997) and starring alongside Julia Roberts, Susan Sarandon and Ed Harris in major film Stepmom (1998), Malone’s cemented her position as one of American cinema’s most notable figures.
Malone’s career has been studded with riveting performances, with roles in cult film Donnie Darko (2001), The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys (2002) and Saved! (2004), in which Malone received her first lead role in a feature film. In 2006 Malone made a sidestep into theatre, acting in the Broadway play Doubt, for which she was highly celebrated for her performance by Broadway.com. She has more recently appeared in the renowned film adaptations of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (2014) and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (2015), as well as superhero blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). An increasing interest in off-screen work and directing has led Malone to co-produce American Girl (2002). Malone has since been admired for her diverse roles within the film industry.
