Biography

Hailing from South London, DJ duo FYI Chris began their careers hammering away on an old Akai MPC until their own brand of dance music started to emerge. Around the same time, the two Chris’ – Chris Coupe and Chris Watson – decided to open Rye Wax in their hometown, Peckham. A lively community venue housed in The CLF Art Café basement, this space functions as a platform for live DJs, a shop for vinyl records and a Café all rolled into one.
The first LP that FYI Chris released was in 2015, called Back in the Millennium. This included tracks like ‘Jeru’, ‘Need I Say More’ and ‘Dedication’. The album helped to establish their thumping, experimental house sound. Not long after, the two Chris’ dropped the Lionoil EP. With songs like ‘For Now’, ‘Xenomorph’ and ‘Taking the F Train’, this release was hard hitting and further developed their deep, techno-electronic aesthetic.
Since then, FYI Chris have dropped two more discs – Snafubar and Spirit Animal. Both releases were well received from fans and critics alike, especially the track ‘Love Star’, for its impeccable vocal sampling and funky bass lines. Other notable songs from Spirit Animal include ‘Captains Patilla’, which has already become an underground classic.
Potentially one of the most exciting underground techno acts that the UK has to offer, Chris Coupe and Chris Watson have already dropped sets at Sala Siroco in Madrid, Groove Bar in the Czech Republic, Sugar Factory in Amsterdam and the Superkilen in Denmark.
