English actor Ciarán Griffiths has appeared across dozens of high-profile productions but is undoubtedly known best for the long-running contributions to Channel 4 dramas The Bill and Shameless. A skilled performer, Griffiths is adept at inhabiting gritty and unsophisticated characters that bristle with unrestrained energy – his compelling portrayal of Micky Maguire in Shameless earned him national recognition and led to a breadth of opportunities across television and film.
With motion picture roles including Burnsey in the 2009 movie Svengali, and Carl Thompson in Big Fat Gypsy Gangster, Griffiths is no stranger to the big screen. He can also be seen in a range of guest spots across British television, appearing in The Visitor, Holby City, Waterloo Road, This Is England ’90, Dead Cert and two of Britain’s most popular soap operas, Coronation Street EastEnders.
Born in Manchester, Ciarán landed his first acting gig at the age of thirteen after starring in ITV’s Children’s Ward. Throughout his career, he has been featured in magazines, modelling for Attitude Magazine in 2011 before appearing in advertisements for brands such as British Telecom. Following his tenure at The Bill, Ciarán took to script-writing, creating and starring in the short adult-comedy web-series Wayne & Abel, alongside former co-star Chris Simmons. Most recently, Griffiths can be seen in Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators, airing on BBC One.
