Levardis Robert Martyn, otherwise known as Levar Burton Jr., is the multi-talented author, actor, presenter and director, hailing from the United States.
Perhaps most famous for his role presenting the hit children’s TV show, Reading Rainbow on PBS, Levar Burton stayed with the show for many many years . Running for half an hour, every episode of Reading Rainbow is educational, and which encourages children of all ages to start reading. By 2012, the show had created their own interactive book on Kindle and iPad.
Possessing an astonishingly colourful career on our screens, Levar has also been cast in some more heavyweight and adult shows. For example, back in 1977, Burton was lucky enough to appear as King Kinte, the iconic character from Alex Haley’s gripping novel Roots: The Saga of an American Family American. Thanks to his heart wrenching performance, the Roots miniseries was adorned with much critical acclaim and several awards.
As well as appearing in front of the camera, Levar’s talents also extend to directing and writing. Throughout his career, he has directed countless TV episodes of Star Trek, and even appeared on set as Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
