Brooks Wheelan

Biography

Writer, actor, and stand-up comedian Brooks Wheelan has made his mark on the entertainment industry within the past decade. Named one of Comedy Central’s 10 Comics to Watch in 2012, he went on to become a writer and cast member for the critically acclaimed Saturday Night Live from 2013 to 2014.

Wheelan has also released a No 1 debut comedy album on iTunes and starred in his own half-hour special in 2015, while making appearances across talk shows and television series such as Girls, @Midnight, and Adam DeVine’s House Party. Brooks also voices the character Fred in the popular TV adaptation of Disney’s Big Hero 6.

Born and raised in Iowa, Brooks performed at his first open-mic at the age of 19, completing a degree in biomedical engineering before deciding to pursue comedy full-time. He would continue to grow a steady following before and after his time at SNL, gaining exposure through his involvement in events like SXSW, Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, Comedy Central’s South Beach Comedy Festival, Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Sasquatch Music and Arts Festival, and more. Before the release of his comedy album, This Is Cool, Right?, he was picked out as of the top 45 acts in the 2014 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival by Rolling Stone. Despite branching out into script-writing and podcasting, Brooks maintains a strong connection to his stand-up comedy, continuing to write and perform on stages across the globe.
