Raymond “Ray” Parlour was always a fan favourite for his high-energy performances and no nonsense style on the pitch, as such he is a fantastic man to have appear at your after dinner event as guest speaker. Nicknamed – with a hint of irony – The Romford Pelé – Parlour was a steely midfield player who also pulled on a shirt for Hull and Middlesbrough over his long career.
Because he spent 14 years with the club Parlour is most associated with Arsenal, breaking through properly in the 1994-95 season. That same year he appeared in the club’s European Cup Winners’ Cup final loss to Real Zaragoza, but eventually picked up silverware upon winning a number of Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup titles. During those years he also managed to net more than one hat trick – against teams like Werder Bremen in the UEFA Cup and Newcastle United at Highbury. Since quitting pro football, Ray has earned himself a reputation as one of the best players for The England Legends. It’s a team made of 16 former internationals who have played Italy, Germany, Scotland, Ireland and The Rest of The World with great results. So, for a view from the inside of club and international football, Ray Parlour with his unpretentious air is a fine choice at your event.
