Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott is unquestionably one of the original pioneers of female rap. She is one of the very few women to break in to the male dominated rap industry, and her rise to fame has been nothing short of incredible. Elliott’s refusal to fit into people’s expectations of a female rapper, along with her total control over every song she releases, have turned her into a household name. Elliott has sold over 7.6 million records, and inspired even more.
